Girl scouts recycle flowers for Claremont residents this Easter

troop 1920 recycle flowers

Members of Girl Scout Troop 1920 from Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church gifted smiles to the residents of the Claremont Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center this Easter. The troop members visited the home on Friday and gave the inhabitants beautiful flowers that they created themselves with lots of love and affection. Not only did they bring them lovely flowers, but also sat down painting eggs, reminding the residents of the house of their traditions with their own children. Troop 1920 traveled to Carlisle to collect flowers that were shaped into attractive arrangements.

The girls got silk flowers from local cemeteries and cleaned them to include in the arrangements. The idea of recycling flowers came to troop mother Sally Holbert after running through the cemetery and noticing piles of flowers in the dumpster. The troop recovered nearly $600 worth of silk flowers from the local cemeteries and creatively assembled them into beautiful flower arrangements. This was Troop 1920’s first visit to Claremont, thought it has earlier too undertaken service projects at Christmas, often caroling at nursing homes in Mechanicsburg. The kids gave nearly 40 to 45 exquisite arrangements to the residents of Claremont.
