HighDro Power generates clean energy from falling wastewater

Ever new sources of alternative energy are being created that reduce carbon emissions and trim down our dependence on fossil fuels. Tom Broadbent an industrial design graduate from the UK’s Leicester’s De Montfort University, has devised a machine that exploits energy from falling wastewater.

Called the HighDro Power, his contraption works to harness tremendous amounts of energy generated by wastewater falling through the drain pipes of high rise buildings. The water goes down the pipe and hits four turbine blades which drive a generator to produce electricity. According to Tom, the electricity generated by the HighDro Power can be used in the building to save around approx US$1,410 or else can be sold back to the national grid on a buy-back tariff.
