As the world is going green, so are the designers. Ilyssa Shapiro, a senior industrial design student at the University of Arts at Philadelphia and an intern at the Mayor’s office of Sustainability, has designed Wrap Stool, a modular stool made from 100% wool felt and reclaimed scrap plywood. It is modular in the sense that it has the ability to attach with another stool to increase size and space.
Ilyssa Shapiro calls herself a thinker and problem solver. She is very much interested in exploring where design and engineering can be integrated into objects and experiences that can intervene on the complex relationship between humans and nature.
It is heartening to note that the new age designers are responsible stewards of the environment and the agents of change for green and sustainable environment as they are coming out with designs that predominantly use waste materials or there is increasing use of environment-friendly materials in their designs. What is encouraging is the fact that this trend is not restricted to a nation or a region, but designers all across the globe are becoming harbingers of eco-friendliness and the same is getting reflected in their designs. I am sure this trend will be a motivation for others to contribute towards a greener earth.
