Kevin Mounce along with his two brothers Barry and Britt, opened doors of their Windspire franchise, the Fort Smith Windspires with the objective of selling an innovative wind turbine that would produce green energy. The trio is hoping to sell 30 of the vertical wind turbines designed and made by a Nevada company, Mariah Power, within a period of one year.
The Windspire, a vertical axis wind turbine that derives inspiration from ancient windmills, generates power from the wind. The Windspire standing 30 feet tall and 4 feet wide can use even a slight breeze to generate electricity, but works best with 14-mile-per-hour winds. Fort Smith Windspires sells two models, the first being the high-wind version that produces a lot of power at consistently high winds, while the second can work even using a slight breeze.
The vertical wind turbine whose cost and installation would sum up to some $10,000 operates silently and is capable of providing energy directly to a home or business for at least 20 years. For those of you who buy the spire there are tax incentives that include a 30 percent rebate for all purchasers and several grants and rebates for farmers or ranchers. The Windspire franchise is also working on a partnership with a local solar energy company to install hybrid wind and solar power systems.
