The Green Graveyard Company, an Irish company is planning to introduce the country to the first eco burial ground. Set in the natural environment of Co Wexford, the graveyard will bring sustainable burials to Ireland. The 7.5-acre graveyard in scenic woodland at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains has been put for approval. This green cemetery will replace the concrete paving, oak coffins and large marble headstones with willow or banana leaf caskets and grow native Irish trees and wildflowers.

The company has planned that the graves will be marked either by small wood or flat stone markings or even by eco-friendly microchips that will emit the GPS coordinates of individual graves. The company is hoping that the proposed location of eco burial sites will be the key to their future success. It also claims that natural burials will be significantly less expensive than other traditional offering and has the potential to change the format of traditional Irish burials. Green Graveyard Company will offer a family plot for €1,500, saving the families €3,500.
