The Dutch airliner, KLM, would soon be the most eco-friendly airline around. As per EU, all airlines need to reduce their carbon emissions by 3% latest by 2012. With an ongoing effort to achieve this target, KLM has replaced its daily airline fuel with used cooking oil.
Using a mix of 50:50 of jet fuel and reused cooking oil, the airline has powered 3 of its engines with aviation fuel, while one engine solely runs of biofuel. By mixing the two ingredients, the Dutch airline is able to reduce the fuel consumption, as well as, help in saving the environment.
KLM initiated the flying procedure way back in 2009 when it made use of biofuel for the first time. Since then, there has been no looking back. Now, it has so happened that KLM is proposing to run about 200 flights between Paris and Amsterdam itself and solely on biofuel. Well, if the airline is able to achieve this, it would prove to be a feather in their caps.
As per KLMâs Managing Director, Camiel Eurlings:
The route to 100% sustainable energy is enormously challenging. We need to move forward together to attain continuous access to sustainable fuel.
