Australia’s largest gas and electricity retailer, AGL Energy has recently signed an agreement with Meridian Energy to build a 420-megawatt wind farm. The project was officially launched in Melbourne yesterday and will see the installation of 140 three-megawatt wind turbines. Located in Macarthur in Victoria, the $1 billion wind farm will be largest facility in the southern hemisphere.

The Macarthur Wind Farm will produce enough energy to supply renewable energy to over 220,000 average Victorian homes. Not only will the project help in cutting down the carbon emissions by 1.7 million tons annually, but will also create new jobs. Once the wind farm completes in 2013, it will be one of the largest in the world.
