The LA Auto Show is just around the corner and Maybach is all set to rock the 2010 Design Challenge with its latest concept Maybach DRS – “Den-Riki-Sha.” The competition seeks car designs that are under 454kgs, can carry four people and pay special attention toward safety and comfort. The Maybach DRS embodies attributes like light, transparent designs with sculptured elegance and an extensive range of comfort and safety options, while maintaining traditional values of the classic “Jin-Riki-Sha” (human powered rickshaw), which originated in Tokyo around 1870.

This first worldwide NMV (Naturally Manufactured Vehicle) flaunts striking design, great luxury and technical brilliance. Powered by a self balancing electric drive unit, the Maybach DRS offers a smooth, luxurious and green ride. In order to extend its range, the driver could also supply the vehicle with pedal power. An onboard computer that is plugged into a mega city’s transport infrastructure controls this human-electric hybrid. With such ingenious designs at our disposal, we can expect to see a radically new car culture in the near future.
