Princeton University eyes LEED silver certification with its new research center

New York-based group Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects have come up with an ingenious design for the new research center for energy and the environment at Princeton University. The design that was recently unveiled shows the energy research hub that would reside on the east campus of the university as a beautiful a connection between the built and natural environments.

Designed to achieve LEED silver certification, the structure will be surrounded with a series of gardens that will make the environment more inviting. The brick and glass building will comprise of laboratories, classrooms and meeting spaces. The architects have paid special attention to develop beautiful lower level spaces as the research hub will have some highly specialized laboratories, such as the imaging labs for examining materials at the atomic levels were vibrations can be large. The 127,000-square-foot research center that has three interconnected building is expected to begin construction in 2011.
