Starting it at an elevation of 9,390, and climbing to 14,110 feet, Japanese driver Ikuo Hanawa led the HER-02 concept electric vehicle to humble the Pikes Peak Hill Climb with a time of 13:17:575. The electric vehicle equipped with Yokohama tires and powered by new AC Propulsion motor utilized Sanyo batteries to better its previous record by 93 second. Furthermore, it broke the previous Pikes Peak EV record, which was set by Jeri Unser in 2003, by 65 seconds.
While the 2010 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb exposed HER-02 to some of the roughest road conditions, the vehicle running on Yokohama tires passed them all with excellence.
