Recycle waste…make artistic robots!

upcycled robot

“Environmentally friendly” is the phrase of the day for artist Toby Fraley. Titled appropriately as the Robot Series (No, I’m not referring to any flick), the artist has salvaged vintage household and industrial castoffs, converting them into intelligently crafted robots. This collection includes 50 one-of-a-kind masterpieces, catering mainly to the older age groups, aka, the US. Having a base theme of winter sports and music, they are wired in such a way, delighting everyone with their LED bulbs.

The designer

The artist, Toby Atticus Fraley, is a graduate from Washington High School in 1996 and an attendee of the California University of Pennsylvania from 1996-1998. Over the past four years, he has been a recipient of awards, alongside, an attendee of 25 national and regional art shows. Becoming a self-employed artist, he believes in selling his work, and is a major contributor toward 30 galleries across the US.

The creation

If you’re looking for something different and yet creative, then the Robot Series is the thing for you. Crafted out of vintage found objects, purchased from sources like eBay, auctions, yard sales and every other possible source, the artist has successfully guided his art toward a new dimension. Standing approximately 36-48 inches, the robots are built in such a way, so as to attract attention in the first go itself. Some are even rigged and wired, making it possible to attach LEDs, thereby, depicting their true colors.

Using pieces of scrap like license plates, vacuum parts, yard sticks, ski poles, auto parts and even something as extensive as a picnic cooler, you need to let your imagination go wild while talking about these robots. Serving as an unimaginable figment of his extensive creativity, coupled with his artistic talent, his pieces certainly show how one can contribute toward nature in his own little way.

The Aesthetic

Pampering Mother Nature being the main motive behind the development of these robots, they have been crafted out of scrap materials which have lost their value to us. After all, the main motive is to recycle all waste so that one can save resources, labor, money and of course the precious environment. To add to the list of advantages is the fact that these robots make great decorative pieces.
