The time has drawn near when electronic gadgets, such as music players, TV remotes, wireless computer mice and cordless phones, could be powered with normal illumination light. Attesting this idea to some extent at the Techno-frontier 2010 trade show, in Tokyo, Rohm Co Ltd unveiled a wall clock and an ultraviolet ray meter that replace solar light with normal illumination light as their main power source. The clock and the UV ray meter rely on the power harnessed through the dye-sensitized photovoltaic (PV) cells.
The company also unveiled a wearable pulse wave sensor that uses a normal battery as its power source. The sensor records the pulse waveforms at a fingertip and feeds the readings into a monitor.
