Engineering students at the Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron have developed a home-made version of an electric powered vehicles whose batteries are charged by solar energy. Developed as part of a school project, the golf cart-like vehicle uses renewable energy for power, saving the environment. Dubbed the “TMT”, the green vehicle uses 12 batteries, totaling 24 volts, which can power it for 3 to 5 hours.

Since the batteries are rechargeable, so during times when the sun is not out they can be charged by plugging into home socket. But, the students have a added advantage, in the Middle East sun shines brightly nearly 300 days of the year. The home made solar power invention cannot exceed the speed of 30 kilometers per hour. It is ideal for short distance traveling around the town. It’s good to see young Palestinians contributing towards the environment.
