Some third year students from Mechanical Engineering School of Trinity College in Dublin have come up with this design project. The Solar Powered Can Crusher has two 20 watts solar panels that generates enough energy to help the system in crushing the soda cans. Supplied with a battery, the system can store any surplus energy generated during the process. A bar code reader is there to do the essential statistics and unlock the door as well.
