If you wish to see the magical transformation of trash into treasure, then visit the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center this Saturday. The center will become the place for the “discARTed” recycled art exhibition, which will feature amazing creations made from trash. Work of more than 80 artists, mostly from around Northeast Ohio, will be exhibited at the show that is to open with a “Meet the Artists” event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The recycled art exhibition will showcase beautiful artwork displaying creativity and innovation. The showpieces included in the brigade of creations are a silvery man constructed out of soup cans, a jacket pieced together with coffee bags and an adult-size rocking horse named “Rerun” that once lived as a chestnut beam. A sculpture of fish swimming through a swift-moving current will also be seen mesmerizing the visitors. Chris McConnell, a student from the Cleveland Institute of Art, designed the sculpture using 600 pounds of junkyard scrap that consisted of a tractor frame, rusted rebar, banged-up car hoods and mufflers, fence posts, wire strands and other assorted debris. The intention behind the three-month exhibit is to encourage recycling and lessen our impact on the environment.
