Volkswagen’s state-of-the-art paint shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee will be the most advanced in the world and will start draping its first car in September (and more afterward when the plant goes fully operational in the first quarter of 2011) using an eco-friendly process. The shop will utilize a two-step process to ensure zero waste when changing paint colors. This will also ensure that less energy is consumed.

In order to high-quality standards, VW will use environmentally sensitive water-based paint and a dry filtration process whose byproduct will be a dry powder. So, the workers don’t need to worry about the wet sludge at all. VW hopes to serve 1,000 vehicles a day at the $1 billion plant.
