World’s first-ever pedal-powered cycle recreated

worlds first ever pedal powered cycle

Bizarre it may seem to a wandering eye, but who prefers to go into details would find the tricycle as a a blast from the past revisited to complement modern transportation. Chinese historian Xu Quan Long claims it to be the world’s first pedal-powered cycle, which he has reconstructed to fit into the modern scheme of things. Does it stand any chance of doing so? Undeniably, it is a vague possibility.

Chinese inventor Lu Ban invented the wooden device more than 2,500 years ago. Featuring complicated gearing, it is quite formidable a task to steer and control this plodding vehicle. As per the records, German engineer Baron Karl von Drais developed the first two-wheeler in 1817. But now as Xu claims Lu Ban as the cycle’s true inventor, the records certainly need to be corrected.
