The Fladgate Partnership – owners of Taylor’s, Fonseca and Croft Port houses – will inaugurate the Yeatman luxury wine-spa hotel in the Porto District, Portugal, this Sunday. While seeing over the Douro River, the eco-hotel will adorn itself with several solar panels. Aside from including a reverse osmosis water purification system, the eco-hotel will harvest rainwater for its various uses. The esteemed visitors, which also include Portugal’s president Aníbal Cavaco Silva, could see a butterfly greenhouse there.

The project began in 2006 as part of the regeneration of Vila Nova de Gaia. Set on 2.8ha above the historic Port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia, the Yeatman will let its guests feel closer to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Oporto.

A decanter-shaped outdoor infinity pool and 12 suites will celebrate the country’s rich wine heritage. Guests will have their chance to know about the world’s largest cork and ‘educational corridors’, the country’s wine regions and the history of the cork-making process. Furthermore, a 25,000-bottle wine cellar will be there to stock the world’s largest range of Portuguese table wines and Ports.
