When asked to design and build an open-wheel, single-seat, plug-in hybrid racecar for the Formula Hybrid, the Brigham Young University came up with their 70 percent electric racecar that amazes all with 80 miles per gallon fuel-efficiency. The hybrid racecar can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
BYU engineering student Sean Cornwell says…
This is probably the fastest car off the line I’ve ever driven and it handles amazingly well, it corners very well.
The hybrid car will compete with 35 intercontinental schools for the top prize in design, business plan, acceleration and endurance. However, having put in two semesters with eight hours of effort a week, Team Captain Peter Ransom looks pretty confident of making a mark at the event that starts next Monday at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The high-powered batteries and a spirited hybrid system will help the racecar electrify all at the competition.
